Moscow retail turnover grew by 3.2% in the first quarter
Retail trade turnover in Moscow in January - March reached almost two trillion rubles, which is 3.2% higher than in the same period of 2024 in comparable prices. This was reported by Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, head of the capital's Department of Economic Policy and Development.
“The main contribution to growth was made by the non-food sector. Its turnover increased by 4.1% to 934 billion rubles. The greatest growth was shown by cosmetics and perfumery, digital equipment, flowers, and repair goods stores. The capital's retail sector is successfully combining traditional and digital sales channels, opening new neighborhood stores and developing its own online ordering and delivery services. It makes the process of shopping more convenient for citizens and contributes to the growth of trade turnover”, - noted the Deputy Mayor.
The turnover of food products in the capital increased by 2.1%, reaching 952 billion rubles. The sector grew in many respects due to active development of services of delivery of ready meal and opening of cafeterias in stores.
In the first quarter of 2025 Moscow's share in Russia's total retail trade amounted to 13.4%.
The growth of consumer activity was reflected in the attendance of the city's shopping centers. In January - March, traffic in them increased by one percent compared to the same period of 2024 and averaged 267 people per day per thousand square meters. The main growth was provided by district shopping centers with the area up to 20 thousand square meters - people visit them more actively because of their proximity to home. Traffic there was 6.8% higher than in the first quarter of last year.
