The number of self-employed people in Moscow exceeded 1.8 mln

The number of professional income tax payers in Moscow in October exceeded 1.8 mln people. This was reported by Maria Bagreeva, Deputy Mayor of Moscow, Head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city.

«About 16% of all self-employed people registered in Russia work in Moscow, which indicates that the city has created attractive conditions for micro-business. On October 1, 2024, their number reached 1.82 mln people. The income of the city's self-employed for the entire period of this tax regime, which is applied in Moscow since January 1, 2019, amounted to more than 1.3 trillion rubles, including 366 bln rubles they earned in the first nine months of this year», — said the Deputy Mayor.

Tax on professional income is popular among citizens who are self-employed and do not hire employees. Its advantages are simplicity of registration, automated mode of transferring information on income received, absence of obligation to provide tax reporting and use cash register equipment.

The most popular activities of the self-employed, indicated during registration - passenger transportation, delivery, renting apartments, advertising and marketing, construction, tutoring.

According to Maria Bagreeva, from January till September in 2024, the capital's professional income tax payers issued 114.2 mln checks to clients - 72% more than in the same period in the previous year. This indicates the growth of business activity of the self-employed in Moscow. The average size of a check at the end of September 2024 increased by five percent compared to the same period of 2023 and amounted to 3252 rubles.

In the first nine months of 2024, the self-employed transferred 10.4 bln rubles to the Moscow budget. - 44% more than in the same period last year. For the entire period of the tax regime in the capital budget received more than 34 bln rubles.

The city offers modern educational infrastructure to everyone who plans to develop their career, including choosing the path of an entrepreneur. In Moscow there is a center “Professions of the Future”, where for a maximum of three and a half months people can learn one of 75 in-demand professions in various sectors of the economy.

In other centers — “My Work” — self-employed citizens are trained in programs for successful business start with the support of mentors. This allows them to go through the whole cycle of creating their own business: from determining their entrepreneurial abilities and choosing an idea to registering self-employment and finding their first clients.
