Economists, lawyers and programmers are the most popular professions among the graduates in Moscow universities

Last year 176.1 thousand young specialists recieved their diplomas with the majority being economists, lawyers, programmers, developers and teachers, as announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations Vladimir Efimov.

«The most popular fields of study are still «Economics and Management» and «Law». In the previous year 52.2 and 26.9 thousand students respectively obtained degrees in these fields. For the first time «Computer Science and Engineering» entered the top three with 9 thousand people completed this specialty. These three fields are followed by «Education and Pedagogy» and «Media and Advertising», - added Vladimir Efimov.

However, the percentage of economists and lawyers among those who graduated in the last five years decreased by 11%, while that of IT specialists grew by 1.7% during the same period.

According to the Department of Economic Policy and Development of Moscow, during the last five years number of applicants who were interested in applied science significantly increased. «Psychological science» attracted 2.2 times more students over five years, while «Computer Science and Engineering» doubled its appeal among freshmen in 2022 compared to 2017. Additionally 70% more students showed an interest in pursuing careers as journalists and advertising specialists.
