The capital's business in January-March 2024 spent 9.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, increasing energy consumption by 6.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reported the Department of Economic Policy and Development of Moscow.

In the first quarter of this year, energy consumption increased in most spheres of the city's economy. The leader was the industrial sector, energy consumption in which increased by 11 percent - up to 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours. This is the result of increasing production capacity and implementation of the import substitution program in industry.

The second place is occupied by urban transport, its energy consumption in January-March increased by 7.6 percent and reached 729 million kilowatt-hours. The growth is due to the active development of transportation infrastructure in 2023, opening of traffic on the entire Great Ring Subway Line.

According to the capital's Department of Economic Policy and Development, overall energy consumption in Moscow in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 6.6 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 12.7 billion kilowatt-hours.

Energy consumption is one of the key indirect indicators of business activity: the more goods and services companies produce, the more the commercial sector consumes energy. The growth of the indicator confirms the effectiveness of support measures taken for the capital's business: it is actively developing and increasing production and sales.
