The turnover of online-purchases in Moscow exceeded the previous year by 26%

The share of online purchases in total turnover of trade and services in the first 5 months of 2022 year exceeded 26% the same period of 2021 year. In Jan-May 2022 the total turnover of purchases via internet amounted to RUB 3,6 bln, said Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.

“In some of the sectors of Moscow’s economy almost all purchases are made online. In the insurance services the share of online-purchases in total turnover as of Jan-May 2022 amounted to 91% or RUB 133,9 bln. Travel agencies – 79% or RUB 160 bln. In the leisure, culture and sport industry such share amounted to 72% or RUB 105,5 bln, in transportation and warehousing – 65% or RUB 254 bln, in education - 61% or RUB 28,8 bln,” said Deputy Mayor.

The share of online purchases in total turnover of trade and services rose steadily from January to May. However, in Moscow city dwellers still tend to buy goods mostly in person.

As Kirill Purtov, Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Department of Economic Policy and Development said, in retail industry share of online purchases in Jan-May 2022 exceeded the same period of 2021 by 12%. Now the share is amounted to 42%.
