Today, more than half of humanity lives in cities, and this share will continue to grow in the future. Sustainable development has become a priority of the strategic planning of BRICS cities and will remain relevant for decades to come.
The Department for Economic Policy and Development of Moscow and MGIMO University have prepared a report on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" by BRICS cities. This study assesses progress and analyzes 56 best practices of 20 capital and large BRICS cities.
In a bid to achieve SDGs cities need to share experiences in the field of sustainable development and urban innovation, which requires the broadest possible inter-municipal discussion.
We invite the leadership of Russian and foreign cities, researchers and practitioners in the field of public and municipal administration to cooperation and encourage the adoption of the practices reviewed in the Report when selecting tools for territorial and socio-economic urban planning.
