Methodology

General: The ranking is based on survey. The average results for the period 2014-2018 are used. At least 300 people aged 15 and older were interviewed in 186 cities around the world.

Groups of indicators: Current life satisfaction. This is called the Cantril ladder: it asks respondents to think of a ladder, with the best possible life for them being a 10, and the worst possible life being a 0.

Expected future life satisfaction in 5 years (the Cantril ladder).
